Shimla
About
Shimla is one of India's most iconic destinations — the former summer capital of British India, perched at 2,200 metres along a ridge-top in the Shivalik Hills. The city's Victorian architecture, broad promenade of Mall Road, and surrounding apple-growing valleys have made it a timeless gateway for plains-weary travellers. In winter, Shimla is blanketed in snow that transforms the colonial buildings into scenes from a different century. The famous Kalka-Shimla Narrow Gauge Railway — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — offers one of India's most scenic train journeys. Shimla also serves as the administrative capital of Himachal Pradesh and the gateway to the deeper valleys of Kinnaur.
