Kalpa

About

Kalpa is a small village perched at 2,759 m above the Satluj River in Kinnaur district, overlooking the imposing Kinner Kailash massif (6,050 m) — a sacred peak considered home to Lord Shiva. The sight of the sunrise turning Kinner Kailash's granite faces from blue-grey to molten gold is one of the most transcendent experiences in the Indian Himalayas. Kalpa is surrounded by terraced apple orchards, ancient deodar forests, and Kathkuni wooden architecture. The Hindustan-Tibet Road passes through here, and the village retains an atmosphere of timeless mountain culture almost untouched by commercial tourism.
