Khajjiar
About
Officially recognised as the 'Mini Switzerland of India' by the Swiss government in 1992 (a plaque exists at the entrance), Khajjiar is a saucer-shaped alpine meadow at 2,000 m, rimmed by tall deodar cedars and centred on a small lily-pad lake. The setting is so improbably perfect — flat green meadow, circular lake, dark forest walls — that it feels almost artificial. The nearby Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary adds wilderness access to this otherwise pastoral setting. Khajjiar is typically visited on day trips from Dalhousie (24 km) or Chamba (22 km).
