Chamba

About

Chamba is one of Himachal Pradesh's oldest and most historically rich towns, with a recorded history going back to the 6th century. Situated on the banks of the Ravi River, the town is dominated by the Laxmi Narayan temple complex — a row of six Shikhara-style temples containing extraordinary sculptures and metal repoussé artwork. Chamba is also renowned for its Chamba Rumals — intricate double-sided embroideries on fine muslin, depicting scenes from Hindu epics — which are now a protected GI-tagged handicraft.
