Shangarh

About

Shangarh is the Himachal that most travellers miss. This remote Sainj Valley village sits in a natural amphitheatre of rolling meadows at 2,400 m, surrounded by glaciers and the Great Himalayan National Park. The central meadow — flat as a cricket pitch, ringed by ancient deodar forest — is one of the most extraordinary natural settings in the Western Himalayas. Traditional Kathkuni wooden temples occupy the meadow corners. At night, with zero light pollution, the Milky Way spans the entire sky. Shangarh rewards those willing to make the extra effort to reach it.
